Afghan Refugee Families Seva

Schedule: Online Tutoring Monday through Thursdays | In-Person Tutoring - Saturdays

Location: Zoom or In-Person location

Timings: 6:30pm - 7:30pm CST (Online) | 10:30am - 11:30am CST (In-Person)

Details: Dallas Sai Center has adopted 6 Afghan refugee families and has been supporting them since September 2022. In total there are 4 men, 5 women, 5 high schoolers, 4 junior high students, 16 elementary school kids, and 4 preschoolers. Afghan refugee families need help with improving their English and Math skills.

**Help with clothes, household items, and groceries is also necessary to support and provide for the families to the best of our abilities. For more details, please contact Chitra Niranjan.**

VNA Meals on Wheels

Schedule: Every Week on Fridays

Location:

Pick up of Food Cooler Bags @ 813 E 15th St, Plano, TX 75074
Delivery of Meals @ 7100 Chase Oaks Blvd, Plano, TX 75025

Timings: 11:15 am - 12:30 pm

Details: DSC is collaborating with the Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) to help with their Meals on Wheels service. Volunteers are required to pick up hot and cold meals from the location and deliver them to homebound seniors.

Austin Street Dinner Seva

Schedule: Second Friday of the month

Location: 1717 Jeffries St, Dallas, TX 75226

Timings: 5:00pm -7:00pm CST

Details: The Austin Street Center requires volunteers to help provide and serve dinner to their guests. Dallas Sai Center volunteers are expected to be at the venue by 5:00pm. Volunteers will need to cook/buy food for dinner service. Items include: Vegetable Pasta, Bread, Salad, Cookies, Milk, Fruits, and others.

The Bridge Breakfast Seva

Schedule: First, Third & Fifth Sundays of the Month

Location: 1818 Corsicana St, Dallas, TX 75201

Timings: 7:15am - 8:30am CST

Details: The Bridge Homeless Recovery Center requires volunteers to help serve breakfast to their guests. Dallas Sai Center volunteers are expected to be at the venue by 7:15am. Breakfast is provided by the venue. No prep necessary

Sandwich Seva

Schedule: First Sunday of the Month

Location:

For Sandwich packing: 2875 E Parker Rd, Plano, TX
Deliver the Sandwich package to Stewpot @ 1818 Corsicana St, Dallas, TX 75201

Timings: 1:30pm - 3:30pm

Details: DSC is helping Stewpot provide meals to homeless residents. Volunteers are needed to make around ~450 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and deliver the same to Stewpot.

Sai Gardening

Schedule: Monthly once on Saturdays for Harvesting and Weekly twice for Watering.

Location: 2875 E Parker Rd, Plano, TX

Timings: 8:00am - 10:00am CST for Harvest.

Details: Dallas Sai Center is collaborating with Church community garden to grow vegetables and plants. Volunteers are required to continue to maintain Sai plots, grow vegetables, and donate yields to local food pantries.

Special Service activities

Location: To community members (to their community members (Eg; First responders, Sanitation workers, homeless guests, etc)

Details: Volunteering families can sign up and donate a gift bag with 9 dry food items (Rice, Pasta, Canned foods, Cereal bars, Snacks, tea/coffee etc) to their community members.

SSE Services

Details: DSC SSE students participate in a plethora of services such as Feed My Starving Children, building beds with Sleep in Heavenly Peace, Plano Park cleanup, building ramps with Texas Ramps, Tree Planting, Angel Tree, etc.

DSC Medical Camp

Schedule: Annually during the summer

Details: DSC hosts its annual summer medical camp for the underserved Plano community. The initiative is brought together by both medical and non-medical volunteers to provide an array of free medical healthcare screening services.

Apron Painting

Schedule: July 23, 2023

Location: 2875 E Parker Rd, Plano, TX

Details: Inviting SSE and Adults for Apron Painting at the Sai Center. Aprons & painting materials will be provided. The first batch will have 12 available slots.

Tree Planting Service

Schedule: Summer and before fall season

Location: at events like Texas Tree Foundation, Community Gardening, Parks or at your home

Details: The national initiative to plant a billion trees for Swami’s centenary celebrations inspired us to
collaborate with Texas Tree Foundation and we were to able plant about 100 tree saplings at the
R.P. Brooks and Lockwood Parks at Dallas.

Salvation Army Sorting

Schedule: Annually in December

Location: Salvation Army Warehouse (Dallas)

Details: Dallas Sai Center volunteers sort Angel Tree gifts to distribute during the Christmas season at the Salvation Army warehouse.

Mindful Crocheting

Schedule: Meet as needed during Winter.

Details: Dallas Sai Center members started a project where one could practice Namasmarana and mindfulness while crocheting items to give to homeless shelters and hospices.

Details: DSC is collaborating with the Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) to help with their Meals on Wheels service. Volunteers will help pickup food cooler bags and deliver meals to senior residents in Dallas.

Senior Social

Schedule: Quarterly

Location: 2875 E Parker Rd, Plano, TX

Details: DSC members come together with an In-reach program to honor our senior members. Dallas Sai Center wants to host a daytime event filled with games, good food, and fellowship for our seniors. Volunteers are required to help run the event smoothly.

VNA Christmas Dock Seva

Schedule: Meet yearly once during Christmas

Timings: 5am-11am

Details: DSC is collaborating with the Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) to help with their Meals on Wheels service. Volunteers will help manage docks and help drivers deliver around 4500 meals.
